May weekend 2000 - 3 beautiful days in a row! This was the third, and we were heading home to pick up the girls in Edinburgh, so decided to climb the Munros on the east side of Drumochter. A steep landrover track took us rapidly up to the plateau at 3000ft. From the top, it was a short walk across the moor to the summit of Carn na Caim. After retracing our steps to the top of the track, Anne returned to the car, while I continued south over A'Bhuidheanach Bheag (the little yellow place!). What a wonderful feeling of isolation. A huge wide summit plateau, with a circle of black and white peaks almost encircling the entire horizon, and no-one within miles. Across further peat hags to the strange little hump of Glas Bheinn Mhor (big grey lump!), then a speedy return to the A9 at Dalnaspidal, picking up a deer antler en route. |
|
Summit Plateau Anne at the top of the landrover track, where the steep slopes up from the A9 level out to the wide and desolate moors. |
A huge snow cornice between A'Bhuidheanach Bheag and Glas Bheinn Mhor. |
