Towards the end of a wet week at Dornie, the morning dawned brightly. We left the car at 9.15am for the steep slog up to the ridge east of Sgurr na Spainteach. Unfortunately the early mist lifted out of the valley and settled at about 1000m. Reached the ridge after 2 hours, and then enjoyed the ridge walk over Sgurr na Ciste Dubh to Sgurr na Carnach where we paused for lunch. Continued to Sgurr Fhuaran. The mist started to lift as we were on the summit, giving spectacular views down to Loch Duich. As we descended, we saw our own shadows cast on a cloud layer below us, encircled with rainbow haloes - the first time I had seen a "Brocken Spectre". Continued over Beinn Bhuidhe and down a boggy valley to Morvich at 5pm, where the girls were waiting to meet us.
