The day almost began in disaster when Anne realised she had packed Iain's size 11 boots instead of her own size 7's. However, 4 pairs of socks rescued the situation, and she had comfy warm feet all day - and no blisters! We set off up the path through the forest, and on to the hill above. Climbing up the side of Geal Charn, we encountered snow, but it was easy to walk on. The top of Geal Charn was swept clear of snow, so we made good progress along the wide ridge towards Sgoran Dubh Mor. Up more snow to the summit, with superb views into Glen Einich and across to Braeriach and beyond. Avoided getting too close to the huge cornices overhanging the valley as we headed south to Sgor Gaoith, the Munro. (The first two tops used to be Munros, but no longer). As we walked along the top, we were circled by gliders from the airfield down in Glen Feshie. At Carn Ban Mor, we decided to head downhill rather than continue along to the next two hills (legs tiring from the snow). Returned over Carn Ban Beag, down through some very deep heather then a forest track back to the car. |

Sgoran Dubh Mor seen from Glen Einich, a few week earlier, when the wind and snow kept us in the valleys. This was taken on a wonderful walk up to Loch Einich from Rothiemurchus a few weeks earlier |
Sgor Gaoith Poised on the summit of Sgor Gaoith, peering down into Loch Einich, with gliders circling overhead. |
