Staying in a chalet on a farm just a few miles down the road, we spent the morning in the farmhouse watching the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana on the TV! When we emerged, it was a beautiful day, so off we set to climb Blaven (or Bla Bheinn to use the correct Gaelic spelling). We followed the main path directly toward the mountain, climbing up into the wild south east corrie. From there, the way became steeper and rockier as we climbed up. with dramatic drops to the north side of the east ridge. In less than 3 hours wee were on the summit, with fantastic views across to the Cuillins, and out to Rum. So, where are the photos to remiknd me of this excellent day? Disaster! The next evening, while filming the sun setting behind the Cuillins as seen from Elgol, I discovered that the film was not properly inserted in the camera, and a whole reel of 36 photos did not exist! Still, it will be no hardship to return to this fine mountain some day (and to collect the South Summit as well). |
