Two days afte climbing Blaven, and with a film in the camera this time, we set off up the "tourist track" from Sligachan, to climb Sgurr nan Gillean, the "young men's peak", The path headed cross the peat bogs to the foot of the mountian, and then up into a high corrie to the east of the Pinnacled Ridge (which now boasts a much-disputed Munro top). Soon we were scrambling up rough Gabbro (whcih left your fingers feeling like you had been working with sandpaper) to wards the low point on the Sw ridge between the summit and Sgurr Beag. Then a sharp right turn to face the steep ascent towards the summit towering above us. We were glad of the good rough rock as we scrambled up the narrow and exposed ridge to reach the sharply pointed top in 3 hours. Descent was by the same route, being careful not to miss the way descending the summit ridge (we did!). |
