This was a very early climb. I was a leader at a Scripture Union camp based in Glen Etive. Each day, different groups set out to climb a nearby mountain.

Followed the long north ridge from Coiletir over many false summits. Into cloud at 800m. Enjoyed picking our way along the narrow ridge linking Starav to Stob Coire Deirg. Compass work to make sure we were on the correct ridge. Origianl intent was to continue to Glas Bheinn Mhor, but time was short do we came down the ridge from the minor un-named top between the 2 Munros. It was a bit of a slither/scramble, and not to be recommended. The main path is much better!

Followed a similar route on my 2nd ascent in 1980 (with a small group from the Youth Fellowship of Mayfield Church in Edinburgh. It was a hot, muggy day, so the asscent was pretty gruelling, but we enjoyed sunbathing on the summit, and enjoying the views.
