The Bethune Family


David was Principal Teacher of Computing at Hawick High School for 15 years from 1989 to 2004.

From 2002 to 2004 he was seconded as a Development Officer for the Scottish Qualification Agency (SQA) on a part-time basis, and also to Learning and Teaching Scotland.

Since August 2004, he has operated as an independent educational consultant and curriculm resource developer, although currently working full-time as a Qualification Development Consultant at SQA.

He is very involved in Selkirk Parish Church (as part-time organist, elder, depute Session Clerk, occasional lay preacher and general activist.

Other interests include climbing mountains, photography, planning the next family holiday and music.

In his spare time(!), he has been a Community Councillor and is now Director/Treasurer of Rowland's (Selkirk) and Selkirk Regeneration Company.


Anne is a qualified French and German teacher, but has now retired (early) from working part-time in the Learning Support department of Selkirk High School. She is busily involved in lots of things, not least in helping look after the grandchildren. Recently, she has become "Mrs Green" at Selkirk Parish Church, and has managed to obtain £62K in grants for the hall renovation, including £28K from the Climate Challenge Fund



The family are now all away from home

Iain works for Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC), but lives in Selkirk with wife Julie, and children Isla, Rhona., Lewis and Angus. They are involved in Selkirk Baptist Church.

Catherine lives and works in Madrid with her partner, Teun, teaching English for the British Council. Teun runs a web development company, nuez web solutions.

Fiona teaches at Kinnaird Primary School in Larbert, and lives in Stirling. She is involved at Stirling Baptist Church (Sunday School, and youth group leader).
