This was an excellent day. We started from a deserted Coire na Ciste car park, and up the path on to Cnap Coire na Spreidhe. Huge snowfields above 1000m were tiring as we were sinking into them a few inches at every step, but the views were wonderful. Lunch on Cnap Coire na Spreidhe overlooking Locah Avon. Very busy on top of Cairn Gorm. Rapid descent down snow slope and then on round the rim of the corries to Stob Coire an t-Sneachda and Cairn Lochan. More views in all directions - very clear. hard to believe that the group of teenagers from Ainslie Park could die here in a blizzard 20 years ago. Anne headed down the ridge from Cairn Lochan, while I continued over Creag an Leth-Choin (Lurchers Crag) - view through Lairig Ghru - and we met up further down. Beautifully engineered path took us quickly back to Coire Cas car park, then a mile down the road to the car. |
