A weekend based at the campsite in Blairgowrie. Drove to the top of Glen Clova, then followed "Jock's Road" for a short distance, until it turned off the main track. We continued through the forest, gradually climbing, until the path broke out into the magnificent amphitheatre of Corrie Fee. A steep climb up the headwall of the corrie, and we were on the plateau. The summit of Mayar was 1km south across rough moorland. We ate our sandwiches lying on our backs behind the summit cairn, to get whatever shelter we could from a strong SW gale. Out route then continued east across the moor, crossing the Kilbo Path, which comes up from Glen Prosen to the south by way of the Shank of Drumwhallo, and drops down to Glen Clova by the Shank of Drumfollow - just two of the many bizarre names to be found in the area. Surrounding us were hills with such names as The High Tree, Lick, Boustie Ley, Manywee and Bodnasparet! We followed the path which led up to the summit of Driesh curving round the top of its NW corrie. Returned to the Kilbo Path, then followed it down to the north, diving back into Glendoll Forest and back to the car. Unfortunately I have no photos, as the film was lost by the processors - the only time I can remember suffering such a misfortune! |
