Staying in a holiday cottage at Contin. Set off with Roger from Garbat farm at 10am, following the path up through the forest. Some slushy snow as we emerged on to the open hillside. We could see the spindrift blowing off the ridge above us, although it was fairly sheletered down below. The snow got deeper and harder as we climbed, and with a ferocious wind as we neared An Cabar, the last few hundred metres were "interesting". Along the summit ridge, it was head down into the blast. We passed over the summit at 13.00, with the cairn buried under deep snowdrifts. Having allowee Roger to walk me off my feet the day before, I found my knee stiffened up as soon as we began the descent, so it was with a peculiar swinging gait (keeping my right knee straight) that we descended to the north over Tom a' Choinnich. Fortunately we found our way on to a good forest track which led us swiftly back to the car at Garbat. |
